Equine Assisted Learning (EAL)
The EAL (Equine Assisted Learning) program at Tara’s Chance is a structured, individualized program designed to support each participant’s cognitive, social, and emotional development through equine assisted activities. The program is non-clinical in nature and non medical, and is provided solely for educational and enrichment purposes. All sessions are led by trained equine instructors and supported by staff and volunteers. This program is designed for those who are required to seek out additional educational enrichment opportunities as outlined in their charter school/home school programs.
This program focuses on groundwork and unmounted activities that build skills such as communication, problem solving, emotional awareness, and teamwork. Participants engage in activities such as leading horses, navigating obstacle courses, grooming, and interactive exercises that encourage critical thinking and collaboration. Lessons incorporate horse psychology, safety, and care, with each activity adapted to meet the participant’s abilities, learning style, and individual goals.
The EAL program is participant centered and flexible, with goals tailored to each individual. The program emphasizes skill building, confidence, independence, and meaningful engagement while supporting social and educational development that can be applied in school and community settings, promoting personal choice and individualized support within a non medical service.
