Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT)
The EAT (Equine Assisted Therapy) program at Tara’s Chance is a structured, individualized riding program designed to support each participant’s physical, cognitive, and social development through equine assisted activities. The program is non-clinical in nature and non medical. All sessions are led by trained equine instructors and supported by staff and volunteers.
This program utilizes the sport of vaulting (gymnastics on a moving horse) as a dynamic and engaging way to work toward individualized goals. Riders participate in weekly 30 minute sessions, riding on a surcingle rather than a traditional saddle, with support on both sides of the horse to ensure safety and provide appropriate assistance. Activities include kneeling, riding backwards, standing, interactive games with balls, medicine ball exercises, sit-ups, and more, all adapted to meet each rider’s abilities, comfort level, and personal goals.
The EAT program is participant centered and flexible, with goals tailored to each individual. The program emphasizes skill building, confidence, independence, and meaningful engagement while promoting community integration, personal choice, and individualized support within a non medical service.
