Equine Assisted Riding (EAR)

Equine Assisted Riding (EAR)

The Equine Assisted Riding (EAR) program at Tara's Chance is a structured, individualized riding program that is designed to support each participant's physical, cognitive, and social development through equine assisted activities. This program is lead by trained instructors and supported by staff and volunteers and is non medical. This program offers instruction to riders of all skill levels, from providing someone's first contact with a horse to advance independent riders and those that have mastered and graduated from our Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT) program.

This program focuses on developing horsemanship skills, including grooming, tacking, and riding a horse with increasing independence. Riders participate in 60 minute sessions using a traditional saddle and actively guide the horse's movement. Activities include both mounted and unmounted work, with instruction in horse psychology, safety, care, riding techniques, and barn responsibilities, all adapted to meet each rider's abilities, comfort level, and personal goals. Through these activities, riders will be able to connect with their horse that can reduce stress, improve mood, and create a relaxing environment.

The EAR program is participant centered and flexible, with goals tailored to each individual. The program emphasizes skill building, confidence, independence, and recreational engagement while supporting social skill development that can be applied in community settings, promoting personal choice and individualized support within a non medical service.

Participants in the EAR program may include individuals with Autism, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, or those with emotional or behavioral challenges.
